Hifi rush forspoken11/29/2023 ![]() I've been a bit bewildered by the comparisons between Forspoken and Hi-Fi Rush, because there is a huge gulf between the two both tonally and stylistically. Afterwards, she has a moment to grieve for the choice she's made and even afterwards, she doesn't immediately change on a dime and has scenes actively confronting this and the reason she even killed Sila in the first place, as well as properly grieving for the character in question. ![]() The writing isn't perfect, nor is the moment to moment cutscene direction good (game could be renamed Fade to Black and it'd still be accurate), but her character is a lot more nuanced than she's given credit for.Īlso, the kiddie-killer line is brought up a few times but, imo, it fits with the character and the moment, as in that moment she's going to actively commit a murder, something that goes completely against her established moral code. I don't need to expound upon the humor as a defense mechanism because that should be self-explanatory. ![]() ![]() She pushes back in growing attached to the world because acknowledging that she cares, which is shown in many of her interactions, would mean she would have to take action, which loops back to my prior bit. Her character arc is about her running from the responsibility that comes with having power when put in the position to have to do something meaningful with them because taking action means having to do 'bad things' (in this case, killing, which is a facet of her character established in the very first cutscenes about not wanting to harm others) and those actions having unintended consequences. She doesn't hate the world and isn't uninterested, it's the exact opposite. Weirdly enough for me, Frey is not even the main problem, is everything else, the world seems bland, i think if the rest of the world of Forspoken was absurdly serious the game would work much better, like take GoT and put it on an extreme, dragons and dramatic death everywhere, at least it would be absurd and we know its a parody, Frey joking about a bland world is less appealing. It wants to be all, Frey is hyped for her powers and seeing dragons and shit, but at the same time she hates the world she's in, and is uninterested in everyone, but she's also making light of the situation by making jokes, but also we should be expected to take the riously? Havent played Forspoken to be fair, but from what i could see from streams (almost half the game probably) the game seems at odds with itself conceptually. The worst offender of HiFi is.some joke not landing. Some jokes are bad, but most of them land, and honestly a few them are just so charming and pure, like CNMMN as a whole, is a game that's extremely hard to hate. HiFiRush knows that a lot of the jokes are absurd (the game even makes fun of Chai for constantly doing terrible jokes, i mean) and it also lends heavily on meta-jokes, corporativism stupidity, the dillema that it has with artistic freedom, a shit-ton of modern (and sometimes obscure) referencial humor, cartoony visual gags. Man, this games are REALLY tonally different, even in the humor they use, i mean racist peope are always going to take advantage to the situation, but that doesnt mean we shouldnt see stuff objectively because that just makes this whole thing even more confusing to discuss.
